The life in our society has gradually changed. The friendliness among people has been cut off step by step in every aspect. Cars have taken us off the streets, where we used to greet each other and stop to chat. Cubicles have taken away a bit of humanity in the work place, as have factories and even computers to some extent. Television has planted us firmly in our living rooms, instead of going out with other people. Even movie theatres, where many people get together, cut us off from true conversation because we’re staring at a big screen.
These are simple ways we can do to help:
First, smile and be friendly. It will sometimes warm someone’s feeling and make their day a little better. As a result, they might do the same thing to others.
Second, stop and help. Next time we see someone who needs our help, don’t hesitate to do so, for example, if we see someone pulled over with a flat tire, we can stop and ask what we can do to help.
Third, donate something you don’t use. Others can put your clutter to good use.
Lastly, lend your ear. Sometimes, listening to someone who is sad or stressed can help a person feel relieved. Often what people need is just to have someone to talk and listen to their story.
There is no excuse for us to postpone helping out. Let’s do a simple good act starting today!
