WHY CHOOSE I CAN READ WEB-CLASS

As a world leading English literacy system with over 20 years of experience, I CAN READ adapted to the current global pandemic by successfully transitioning from classroom-based teaching to online teaching by launching the I CAN READ Web-Class.

With health and safety now at the top-most of everyone's priorities, the I CAN READ Web-Class aims to facilitate effective, efficient and fun I CAN READ lessons for students from the safety of their homes.

What does the I CAN READ Web-Class offer?

INTERACTIVE LEARNING PLATFORM
I CAN READ has chosen a learning platform that allows our teachers to teach using traditional I CAN READ teaching methods. The platform is highly interactive, allowing our teachers and students to interact in a similar way to how they did in their Centre Classroom.

EASY TO USE!
The Teaching Platform chosen by I CAN READ for online classes was chosen in part for its user friendly nature. This appeals to both teachers and students! The Platform offers a selection of teaching tools that allow for students to engage in a fun way with both their teacher and their classmates.

PROVEN I CAN READ CURRICULUM AND TEACHING METHODS
The I CAN READ teaching methods and curriculum have been proven to work for over 20 years, and thankfully in our Web-Classes we have been able to continue using these same methods with little need for adaptation.

FUN AND INTERACTIVE LEARNING
Just like at the Centre, there are a lot of interesting and fun learning activities in an I CAN READ Web-Class. That is especially important to keep our students focused and interested when they are surrounded by the distractions of learning from home.

OUR TEACHERS
Our I CAN READ teachers have adapted well to online teaching, and remain just as passionate about teaching their students as they always have! Our teachers are regularly observed in their online classrooms and refresher training and professional development is an ongoing part of being a member of the I CAN READ teaching family.

SMALL CLASS SIZES
As with classroom-based learning, the number of students in each class is kept low, with an upper limit of one teacher to 10 students. This allows for better interaction, communication and 1:1 individualised support during lessons.

COMMUNICATING WITH PARENTS
We know that the parents of our students like to be regularly updated on how their child is progressing. Our teachers and Centre staff actively work to make this happen by providing regular individualised Progress Reports, Lesson Summaries and Term Reports. Parents are also warmly invited to observe their child during their lessons.

ONLINE LEARNING TIPS WITH I CAN READ WEB-CLASS

Studying Online? - Here are a few useful tips to make your online learning both fun and effective, in helping you keep on succeeding!

STICK TO A SCHEDULE

Even
though you are not leaving your house to go to school, stick to a schedule as usual. For example, wake up early, eat breakfast, wear school clothes, and take regular breaks as you would in school. Aside from that, make sure to set a fixed time when the learning process begins and ends.

MAKE SURE THE STUDY ROOM IS COMFORTABLE AND AWAY FROM DISTRACTIONS
Studying from home opens our children up to all kinds of distractions. The best way to help our children is to provide them with a comfortable space where they will not be overly disrupted while they are attending their lessons.

PREPARE THE LEARNING MATERIALS
Before each lesson ensure that your child has access to a laptop/PC/Tablet and that your internet network is stable. Also ensure that you child has copies of any I CAN READ Student Books or Materials (e.g. Code Card and Screener for Reading 1-6) required for their course. More information can be found in the I CAN READ Web-Class Easy Guidelines for Students (Parents).

BE ON TIME
Enter the class of I CAN READ Web-Class on time – the class is available to enter 10 minutes before it starts, with students encouraged to enter early so that they can catch-up with their classmates before the lesson starts.

PARENT SUPPORT
Parents are encouraged to accompany their child to their I CAN READ Web-Class (especially those with younger students). This is a great way of seeing what your child is learning and to get an idea of how they are progressing.

We see our parents as our partners. This is always important but especially so during this time of studying from home. One of the most important ways that parents can support their child educationally is by working with them on their homework, whether it be to practice reading or to practice their spoken or written English.
