Learn more about the literacy workshop conducted by I Can Read at SAFRA Toa Payoh.

Literacy is something that all parents need to have a good understanding of in order to ensure that their children are being set on the path to success. On April 21st, 2018, I Can Read decided that it would try its hand at presenting the concepts and difficulties of literacy to the masses. We partnered with to conduct a literacy workshop at SAFRA Toa Payoh. The main focus was to give the parents a little advanced warning of some of the difficulties young learners have to overcome on the road to literacy and to show how the I Can Read system is geared to assist in this endeavour.

Over the course of the day, nearly 300 attendees came to our 3 presentations. The sessions ran just about an hour each. The attendees were first presented with some of the peculiarities of the English writing system, then with an overview of the ICR system and how it addresses these issues. It was all wrapped up with a question and answer session. And while the parents were being brought up to speed on the reality of modern phonetic methodology, the little people had their own table where they could express their creative leanings in the form of I Can Read Mother’s/ Father’s Day cards.

All in all, the event was a success. The parents were given the opportunity to see the curves in the road ahead and have their questions answered by people trained specifically to help kids read using modern phonetic techniques. The people at I Can Read were able to help direct the parents towards the best starting point for their kids’ trip down Reading Road. And lest we not forget, the kids were able to draw some beautiful cards to show their parents how much they love them. It really was a pretty great day.
